Emotional Intelligence in a Season of Awakening
Sun moves into Gemini on Wednesday, May 20th at 8:37 PM EST
I remember counting down the days to the birth of my third child, secretly hoping he would arrive before Taurus season ended.
I knew Taurus. My husband and son were Taurus suns, and I was Taurus rising. Taurus felt familiar to me. Grounded. Predictable. Known.
Gemini felt different.
At 33, I did not yet understand how much of my life would become a journey through Gemini territory: communication, perception, conflicting narratives, self-expression, nervous system awareness, and learning to trust what my body knew even when my mind doubted it.
With natal Saturn in Gemini in the second house of Taurus, questions of self-worth and self-expression have rarely felt simple for me. For a long time, I mistook emotional confusion for personal failure, especially in situations where words and emotional undercurrents did not match.
But, as the song Mind, by Sleeping at Last reminds us, "memory is historically inaccurate." While what it conjures up within us may not always be true to the facts, it is emotionally alive and rich with symbolism.
As the Sun moves into Gemini this year alongside Uranus and Mercury, I find myself reflecting on the ways awareness often arrives before the clarity needed to fully decode its meaning. I think about how my body takes the temperature of the room before my mind thinks to check the weather report, and how the path of emotional intelligence requires us to neither bypass nor drown in the feeling state, but to remain present enough to listen.
This particular Gemini season carries big feeling energy for me, with the Moon (feelings) and Jupiter (BIG) moving across my natal South Node in Cancer. Themes of mothering, memory, belonging, emotional inheritance, and liberation feel close to the surface.
Lately, I have been thinking about the journey from emotional incapacitation to emotional liberation, and how emotional emancipation may be the bridge between them.
Where fear hardens, love softens the edges.
Where overwhelm collapses possibility, love loosens the grip of endless doing.
Where avoidance pretends the pain is not there, love sits beside it long enough to listen.
Perhaps that is part of what this Gemini season is asking of us: not simply to think differently, but to listen earnestly to what love is asking within the stories, conversations, relationships, and emotional undercurrents moving through our lives.
